The Kaiwi Channel just saw its youngest swimmer at age 13. KeckCrewSF, a San Francisco-based open water swim club completed 2 relay swims across the Kaiwi Channel on June 21-22, 2026. Team Menehune (Dagny Suro-17, Berlyn Ring-17, Logan Haber-17, Charlie Cocks-16, Annabel Kidd-17, Lucia Belloli-15) departed Moloka'i at 2:03 AM along with coach Mike Keck and finished in 22 hours and 17 minutes at Sandy Beach, O'ahu shortly after midnight June 22, 2026. Team Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (Esme Norton-15, Owen Johnson-16, Nina McKinnon-15, Timothy Morrissey-16, Quinn Werres-13) departed at the same location and time along with coach Mike Tschantz-Hahn and finished in 18 hours 30 minutes at Sandy Beach, Oʻahu 8:33 pm. Many of the team members have completed relays across the English and Catalina Channels. The swim was organized by Maui Nui Swim in collaboration with the Hawaiian Channel Swimming Association. Many thanks to the coaches, swimmers, parents, HCSA observers, and crews for helping make this huge logistical feat possible.
